Moka Only – “Or Somthin”

Posted on December 4, 2024December 4, 2024 By 6ixth Element

Vancouver, Canada-based hip-hop artist Moka Only has recently unveiled his latest track, “Or Somthin,” which showcases his distinctive sound and lyrical depth. Born Daniel Denton, Moka Only is a multifaceted artist who works as a rapper, producer, and singer. With a career that spans nearly three decades, he has made significant contributions to the Canadian hip-hop scene. Moka’s journey began in Langford, British Columbia, and he is perhaps best known for his five-year tenure with the renowned Canadian rap group Swollen Members. Since 2005, he has focused primarily on his solo career, allowing him to fully explore his creative vision.

The track “Or Somthin” is part of Moka Only’s latest album, Arbutus Canyon. This album draws inspiration from the iconic Arbutus tree, known for its unique red bark and resistance to harsh weather, as well as the beautiful Arbutus Canyon, a location near Victoria, BC, that holds personal significance for the artist. The album weaves a rich tapestry of sounds and stories, reflecting Moka’s introspective lyricism and musical evolution.

Musically, “Or Somthin” encapsulates a laid-back vibe that invites listeners to reflect and connect with Moka’s thoughts. The production features his signature beats, which have evolved over the years while remaining true to the style that fans have come to expect. This release marks a seamless continuation of his previous work, In and of Itself, showcasing Moka Only’s ability to blend innovation with the essence of his artistic roots. Through this new track and the album as a whole, Moka Only invites listeners on a journey through his unique perspective and experiences, further solidifying his place in the hip-hop genre.

“Or Somthin” by Moka Only was released to digital streaming platforms on November 15th, 2024, and is now playing on Fresh Kicks: Boom-Bap.
