LumbeRoss is an English-born rapper and producer who was formerly based in China and is showing that he is not afraid to stand up for the Uyghur and Turkic people with his new single, “There Are Concentration Camps in Xinjiang.”
Here in America, the last for years have been incredibly polarizing politically. Unfortunately, that has also made it difficult to focus on what is going on across the world.
Since 2017, the Chinese Government has been using what they call, Vocational and Educational Training Centers in Xinjiang to force labor, indoctrinate, and holding over a million Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and other Turkic Muslims illegally and without charges. This is due to the “people’s war on terror” policy created in 2014.
I felt it important to cover this single as it is not above the American government to act in a similar fashion, as proven by WWII interment camps and children being kept in cages at the border. LumbeRoss is working to spread awareness as well as raise money for the cause. Before you watch the video for “There Are Concentration Camps in Xinjiang,” which you can also hear it on the Louder Than A Riot: Political Hip-Hop playlist, I wanted to leave you with a message from LumbeRoss himself.
As superpowers get more powerful, they also do everything in their will to retain the power that they have. Whether this means invading other countries when they are denied a particular resource, or brutally crushing minorities that disagree with the status quo. In China, this has taken the form of concentration camps where Uyghur, Kyrgyz and Kazakh (Turkic) people are forced into labour, into swearing allegiance to the CCP and into denouncing their religion. Daily life for Turkic people is difficult; the very act of owning a VPN or even in a beard is a punishable offence. In short, they are taught that their cultural heritage is not only wrong but a threat to the state. This single is being used to not only spread awareness of the horrors of the Turkic genocide but also to raise money.
If you buy this track on bandcamp, your donations will go towards the Uyghur Human Rights Project; a charity designed to provide humanitarian aid and activism for those with no voice. Check out: https://uhrp.org/about – LumbeRoss x
