DJ Exes and his production partner, Slamming Gavel Music, have skillfully released a new single titled “Material Things,” accompanied by an engaging video treatment. This ambitious track creatively extends the narrative of Nas’s classic “I Gave You Power,” shifting the perspective from a gun to the treasured pair of Air Force One sneakers owned by the gun’s owner.
In addition, they have recently launched another single from their project “Criollo Vernacular,” with a visually striking video directed by Box-Lo. In this track, Exes showcases his artistic versatility by drawing a compelling comparison between his craft and the techniques of a culinary master in the kitchen. He articulates this connection by stating, “Salsa Criolla is a vibrant sauce used in a variety of dishes in Puerto Rican cuisine. Just as this sauce combines tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and garlic, this track blends Spanish and English rhymes over hard boom bap production.” This thoughtful approach highlights the richness of cultural influences in their music.
